The Tubac Nature Center is pleased to host a Raptor Identification Workshop
with noted author and hawk researcher Bill Clark
March 17,18 & 19, 2023
All workshops will be held at the Tubac Community Center or in the field at the Hawk Watch at Ron Morriss Park, Tubac, AZ
- Friday evening 6 to 8 p.m: Kick off the weekend at the Tubac Community Center, sharpening your skills of hawk identification in the classroom. 30 or so species of North American raptors will be discussed in the first part of this session. Then delve into the subtle differences of the age old question: Is that a Cooper’s or Sharp-shinned Hawk?
- Saturday morning 9 to noon session: to be held in the field at Ron Morriss Park. Bill Clark will point out hawks in the sky and discuss how to differentiate the birds by body shape and flight style.
- Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. afternoon session: at the Community Center classroom. Bill’s workshop will feature his own beautiful, detailed photo images of Hawks, Eagles, Kites and Falcons. Enjoy an in-depth study of the identification, habits and ecology of North American raptors.
- Sunday morning 9 to noon: We will be at Ron Morriss Park learning to identify migrating and locally breeding hawks at the Tubac Hawk Watch site. Common Black Hawks are likely to be present.
- Sunday afternoon: Bill Clark will plan a field trip to a local hawk hotspot. Participants will depart by carpool from Ron Morriss Park at the conclusion of the morning session.
